Greater Manchester Bird News Summary June 2019

June 2019 Greater Manchester


Highlights: An Alpine Swift was found trapped in a warehouse in Leigh and then released (21st). A Cattle Egret was at Reddish Vale Country Park (28th). A Great White Egret was at Standish (1st). Four Little Terns dropped into Pennington Flash briefly (13th). Two Red Kites flew first over Chorlton and then over Little Woolden Moss (2nd).


Elton Reservoir: A Greenshank flew through (30th). A Mediterranean Gull dropped in (22nd). Two Grasshopper Warblers were heard (15th). A Little Egret was seen (29th-30th).

Pennington Flash: Ten Black-tailed Godwits dropped in (26th). A Cuckoo was heard on and off. A Little Egret was present (10th).


Mersey Valley: One, possibly two, Quail sang on Carrington Moss (18th-28th).


Other Sites: A Little Gull was on High Rid Reservoir (12th), as were two Black-necked Grebes (23rd-29th). A Quail sang on Chat Moss (18th-30th). Audenshaw Reservoirs sightings included 19 Sanderlings (1st) of which one lingered (5th), up to two Turnstones (5th-8th) and two Avocets (25th). Three Common Scoters were on Watergrove Reservoir (8th). Little Woolden Moss recorded a Green Sandpiper (17th), three Common Sandpipers (26th), two Turnstones, five Dunlin and four Ringed Plovers, a Hobby, a Cuckoo, up to 11 Yellow Wagtails and up to 3 Corn Buntings. At Rumworth Lodge a Little Egret (12th) and two Mediterranean Gulls were seen (23rd-26th).
